Just a few important things to note ahead of tomorrow’s Li Ning 2025 ABC Championships

Manual draws will also be displayed on your right as you enter the building, with court numbers listed.

Please proceed to the Tournament Room (signposted ahead) to check in / sign in.

·  All players must sign in before going on court.

·  You must collect your own player pack — no one may collect on behalf of another player.

·  Sign-in lists are arranged in alphabetical order by surname, matching your online registration.

Player Areas to Keep your gears and Relax

After registration
Please proceed to the player areas to store, keep your bags/gears and use allocated changing Rooms in order to avoid congestion.

A Women: Court 14 ( Table tennis area)  Use Blue court changing rooms next to Court 13

B women : Cout 15  ( Table tennis area)  Use Blue court changing rooms next to Court 13

C Men : Balcony near court 17/18 and use upstairs changing rooms/Toilets Next to Court 17/18

A/B Men: Use court sides to store Bags/gears and use Green court/Corridor changing rooms

 Mixed doubles :  At the conclusion of the Doubles event please move to down stairs ( Green/Blue courts) .
Court 14, 15 in blue courts and court sides in the Green courts to store the bags/gears

Match Formats

All Round Robin Matches:

·  1 game to 31 points, no extension

·  Change ends at halfway point

·  Exception: C Grade Men’s Doubles — 1 game to 21, no extension

Quarter Finals:

·  1 game to 31, no extension

Semi-Finals & Finals:

·  Best of 3 games to 21, with setting

Grade Formats

A Men’s Doubles
·  4 Boxes — Top 2 from each box → Quarter-Finals → Semi → Final

B Men’s Doubles
·  5 Boxes — Only the winners progress to Knockout Playoff

C Men’s Doubles
·  8 Boxes — Only the winners progress to Quarter-Finals → Semi → Final

A Women’s Doubles
·  2 Boxes — Top 2 from each box → Semi → Final

B Women’s Doubles
·  2 Boxes — Top 2 from each box → Semi → Final

A Mixed Doubles : Please note the change , quarter finals is now added
·  4 Boxes — Top 2 from each box → Quarter-Finals → Semi → Final

B Mixed Doubles
·  4 Boxes — Only the winners progress to Semi → Final

C Mixed Doubles
·  5 Boxes — Only the winners progress to Knockout Playoff

Tournament Update 10/12/25

Please note that all player seeding was determined using the NZ Badminton Player Points system, with controller discretion applied for players who have not previously competed in New Zealand (e.g., international players). Due to the calibre of players entered, we have also exercised controller discretion in allowing some Division 3 players to compete in B Grade.

When viewing the draws, you’ll see courts listed as 1–13 and 17–25. (Courts 14–16 do not exist in the system.)

Start Times

Please arrive early. Courts will be available from 8:00am for warm-up.
On arrival, please register and collect your player pack from the tournament office.

  • Tournament briefing: 8:45am
  • All Doubles: 9:00am
  • Mixed Doubles: from approximately 2:00pm
    (Some mixed pools may start earlier while doubles finals are still in progress.)

Players not available within 5 minutes of their scheduled match time may be defaulted.

Game Day Logistics

  • Warm-up is 2 minutes only.
  • All matches must be umpired.
    • The round robin score sheet will show match order and umpiring assignments.
  • Umpires will be allocated for knock-out matches—please assist when requested.
  • Badminton New Zealand qualified Umpire Apple Chen will be the tournament's technical official and will umpire the A Grade finals and selected semi-finals.
  • Any scoring or rule disputes may be discussed by the tournament committee and their decision is final.
  • Results will be updated live online throughout the day; club computers will also display live scores.

Shuttles

  • Shuttles will be provided for matches only.
  • Please use used shuttles or your own for warm-up.

Scoresheets

  • Individual score sheets will be provided on each clipboard.
  • Please complete the sheet, circle the winner, and hand it to the grade coordinators.

Important Notes

  • The cafĂ© will be open from 9:00am. The menu will be included in your player pack (and attached to this email).
  • Please carpool where possible due to large player numbers and limited on-site parking.
  • The pro-shop will be holding a special tournament-day sale — prices are already among the lowest in NZ, with an additional up to 30% off for on-site purchases.
  • Due to large player numbers, there will be NO same-day stringing available. Please ensure you bring spare rackets.

Entries Are Now Closed for the Tournament, We are excited to announce that 253 players have been accepted into this year’s tournament.
Due to certain sections reaching capacity and some late entries/payments, we unfortunately had to decline a number of registrations. We sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming support.

With 253 players participating, plus spectators and volunteers, the venue will be extremely busy.

To ease congestion, we kindly ask everyone to:

  • Allow extra time for parking on surrounding streets

We are thrilled to share an update on the Li-Ning 2025 Badminton Championship. Despite this being a busy time of year when many players are away on holidays, the response has been outstanding. Both the quality and quantity of entries have been exceptionally high, and at this stage registrations have exceeded 200 players — with a few committed pairs still yet to complete their entry and payment.

With entries now passing 90% of full capacity, we are pleased to confirm the tournament format for this year’s championship.

🏾 Tournament Format Confirmed

The competition will begin with boxed round-robin matches, allowing players multiple games in the early stages.
Winners of the box rounds will then advance to the knockout stage.

To ensure smooth flow, minimal waiting time, and maximum enjoyment:

  • 22 badminton courts will be in operation during box rounds.
  • This will help us run the tournament efficiently and keep matches progressing without delay.
  • During tournament the live updates of scores will be available online. 
  • Free wi-fi will be available to all during tournament.

🏾 Prize money and Prizes for the tournament

The cash prize money is directly provided by NZ Badminton Centre as a part of contribution back to the badminton community. All prizes and other aspects of the tournament are sponsored by Li Ning Head office and Coca cola company. 

⏰ Important Timings for All Players

All players are expected to:

  • Arrive from 8 AM by 8.30 AM
    Courts will be open for warm-up immediately on arrival.
  • Attend the tournament briefing at 8.50 AM
  • Matches commence sharply at 9.00 AM

Please plan your travel accordingly. We would encourage carpooling in order to manage the car parking efficiently.

📝 Player Registration & Packs

On arrival:

  • All players must register their attendance
  • Collect the Player Pack at the registration desk

⏰ Junior Academy Players and Volunteers

All junior players of the academy are invited with your family to come and watch the display of high level talents in the country. Selected junior players from those signed up for volunteers will be used to assist adult volunteers.

Adult players available and keen to assist in the running of the tournament are requested to contact us for available tasks.

📅 Entry Deadline – 5 December 2025

While the official closing date remains 5/12/25, we strongly encourage any remaining players to:

  • Submit their entry early
  • Ensure their partners are also registered
  • Complete payment promptly

This helps us finalise draws and organise the tournament with accuracy and fairness.

🔍 Grade Review Before Draws

Once entries close, we will publish the full entry list and grade allocations for:

  • MD, WD, XD events across A, B, and C grades
  • Players to review their own grade and their competitors’ grades

If any player believes someone has been placed in an incorrect grade, feedback may be provided.
This is especially important for B and C grades, where incorrect placement can lead to unfair imbalance.

We are pleased to confirm that Home Delight will be operating the café during the tournament. A wide variety of freshly prepared food will be available, including:

  • Noodles
  • Fried rice
  • Dumplings
  • Burgers
  • Faluda
  • Sandwiches
  • Cakes
  • Indian snacks & sweets

Players and supporters will be well catered for throughout the day.
