What to Expect in a club environment
The membership fee is worked out & the guidelines are set so that all players will be able to play at very low cost and enjoy games at similar levels. Generally
- Everyone is expected to take turns and play on a roster basis. One game on & one game off is what is expected. Each turn you will be able to play 2 games continuously. 3 to 4 turns 0f 20 mnts & 6 – 8 games is expected to those who arrive before start time and stay the whole time. On a night with less attendance, you may get more games which is bonus to set off against the bad days.
- Everyone is expected to play more games with similar level players and few games with lower or higher level players. However new players or visitors may be in a wrong grade for a while which you may need to be flexible until corrected.
- Depending on the night, some may have their best nights and some may not which may be beyond the control of anyone due to unexpected very high/low attendance, games scheduling pattern, players arriving late or leaving early, not signing out, not turning up to the court etc.
What to do at the club
- Sign In on arrival & when you are ready to play.
Sign Out before you go to play your last game. - If you forget to sign out please stay back & play or go to your court, organise a replacement so that other 3 players are not let down by you.
- Please return all the good usable shuttles to the shuttle holder provided in each court which can be used for warm ups or as 2nd shuttle for game play.
- Handle shuttles very carefully & responsibly.
- Respect the level of all players & play your best so that everyone on the court will enjoy the game.
Be considerate & help other players when you get to play with lower graders , as higher graders are expected to do same to you when they play with you.
Club night Game format
Number of turns/games
The computer game scheduling program is designed with the following guidelines.
- Generally on an average busy club night there will be minimum 4 scheduled turns to each person & each turn will have generally 2 games (8 games minimum).
- All players will get to play same (+/- 1) number of games except those late comers and early leavers.
- Players Signing in late or leaving before the end of the session will naturally get less than 8 & others more than 8.
- A Fully random game will be organized time to time depending on the club night.
- Players will be rested in turn from lower grade generally to top grade. Where possible higher grade players will be rested less than others so that more lower grade players have opportunity to play with higher grade players.
Frequently asked questions
When a member is signed up for 1 club/week membership, Can they attend any other club nights?
If a member is signed up for one club day he is eligible to attend that particular night free. When he attends any other club sessions he/she will have to pay the visitor fee.
Can a member upgrade membership from 1 day/week to 3 or 4 days /week before end of the membership period?
Yes full year membership can be upgraded and extra days can be added accordingly by paying the difference of the annual fee. The membership will still run from the original start of the membership date.
How do we monitor which member is eligible to play in which club night?
All membership details and eligible club sessions are controlled by a computerized data base and the eligible names of a club session will only be available for sign in at any session. If a member’s name does not appear in a club session he/she can only play as a visitor.
Can a member transfer his membership to a different club night?
Club transfer can be done anytime and the admin fee for transfer is $15.
How many games each member gets to play during a club session and how often a member gets to rest during a club night?
Generally every club member is expected to play minimum 2 turns in a row unless unexpectedly high number of players turn up. Total number of members to each club session will be limited based on average attendance and available number of courts.
How does the grading or ranking system work so that players will get to play with similar grade players?
All players are graded accordingly into grades such as A1. A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2, E1, E2 and the names are color coded.
The game scheduling system will generally follow the grading and the ranking within the grading to make up the games.
How do you handle a new member?
A new member’s grading will initially be by self-assessment and feedback from other known players. After a few weeks of play a formal trial will be organized before allocating a grade.
Is the membership fee refundable if a member decides to withdraw?
Membership fee is refundable within 30 days for change of Mind! or anytime with a proof on injury from a doctor. In such cases the member will pay for the number of weeks passed at the visitor’s rate regardless of attendance and if there is any balance left that will be refunded.
