๐ธ Life-Saving AED Installed at NZBC โ Effective 1 May 2026
At New Zealand Badminton Centre (NZBC), the safety and wellbeing of our players and community has always been a top priority.
We are pleased to announce that a life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED), supplied and supported by St John New Zealand, will be installed and available for public use from 1st May 2026.
The AED will be located in the club room, with easy access for everyone in case of a medical emergency.
โค๏ธ Why This Matters
Over the past 25 years, we have unfortunately witnessed the reality of cardiac incidents in sport.
- We have witnessed loss of two fellow players on court in Halls in Auckland due to sudden cardiac events
- We have seen multiple instances at NZBC where players experienced heart-related distress and required immediate assistance
- Most recently, we witnessed at our centre during the last month a player collapse on court and fight for his life โ and thanks to immediate CPR and the prompt response from St John, he survived
These experiences reinforce one simple truth:
๐ Immediate action saves lives
Having an AED on-site, combined with people who know how to respond, can make the difference between life and death.
โก What is an AED?
An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a portable device that:
- Detects life-threatening heart rhythms
- Provides clear voice instructions
- Delivers a shock if required to restore a normal heartbeat
AEDs are designed to be used by anyone, even with little or no prior training.

๐ธ Important for Court Account Holders & Group Organisers
We strongly recommend that all court account holders and group organisers make time to attend and encourage their players to participate.
